peopleseminar.pngStanding Room Only: Roman Stone SeminaR

Last Tuesday, LICA member Roman Stone Construction Co. hosted a Wastewater Treatment System Training Seminar for more than 90 attendees. The training, sponsored by LICA and presented by Norweco, was approved by Suffolk County (SC) to provide 4 TCH credits for SC Liquid Waste License Holders. As the exclusive LI distributor/manufacturer for Norweco, Roman Stone put this program together to showcase Norweco’s innovative and alternative onsite wastewater treatment system, which was provisionally approved by the SC Department of Health. Tom Montalbine, President of Roman Stone explained why this new system is so vitally important for regions like Long Island. “Suffolk County has 1.3 million people who live on top of our sole source aquifer. Whatever we dump into the ground tends to flow down over time and either goes out to our waterways or gets sucked down to our water supply when we pump water out from below. One of the largest causes of concern is nitrogen pollution from the 365,000 residences that are not hooked up to sewers.” Tom noted that “getting more homes on sewers will help, but the reality is that we can’t sewer all of Long Island,” citing that it will take many years to complete and the costs could be prohibitive. He added “The most cost effective solution for some areas is to make each home its own wastewater treatment plant. The technology to do this is here and now with systems like this.” In closing, Tom believes that “Bringing this technology to Long Island is going to be important for our families and will make the Long Island way of life that we enjoy today, safe for our children of the future”.
