LICA was one of many industry associations who submitted or gave testimony to the Joint-Senate Standing committee on Economic Development and Senate Standing Committee on Labor to examine the Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises program. This hearing was called to consider potential legislative solutions to create a more effective and efficient MWBE program to enhance New York’s business climate. Although our industry supports the MWBE initiative, there are great concerns over specific issues of the program, including unrealistic MWBE goal setting and discrepancies about the number and capacity of available MWBE firms in our industry, according to the state’s directory and recent studies. For more about the issues and industry concerns, read the testimony submitted by Marc Herbst of LICA as well as Denise Richardson of GCA and Mike Elmendorf of AGC
