Last Tuesday, LICA board members Peter Scalamandre and Billy Haugland Jr. joined Executive Director Marc Herbst in Washington, D.C. for the New York Roadway and Infrastructure Coalition’s (NYRIC) annual reception. The event, chaired this year by Denise Richardson of the General Contractors Association (GCANY), is a legislative outreach, where our elected leaders seek input on regional transportation infrastructure issues. Representatives from Teamsters Local 282, IUOE Local 138 and the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters also attended the reception. Congressmen/Congresswomen throughout the state attended and both Congressmen Lee Zeldin and Tom Suozzi addressed our group. Conversation included funding for the Gateway project as well as a possible gas tax to help fix the Highway Trust Fund long-term. The late Dr. James Melius was honored posthumously for his many years of service, advocacy and efforts to increase infrastructure investment and improve worker health and safety.
