mtaworkers.pngLICA Deputy Executive Director Sheryl Buro was proud to join MTA Construction & Development President Janno Lieber and others at the LIRR Elmont Station construction site on July 22 to show our appreciation for all the essential construction workers who kept things moving during these difficult times, despite the many challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Workers received “Essential and Proud” t-shirts and helmet decals by Lieber and other industry leaders who thanked the workers for their dedication, including Matt Aracich of the Building & Construction Trades Council of Nassau/Suffolk Counties and John Durso of Local 338 & the LI Federation of Labor.

LICA is of course thankful for our union partners and all those workers who continue to build and maintain our transportation systems which are vital to our economy. We are grateful to the Governor and his administration, who, from the onset of COVID, recognized heavy construction as an essential service for transportation projects. Thanks also go to Janno and the MTA, who immediately reached out to LICA and other organizations to seek cooperation in developing and implementing safety protocols and procedures for work sites. As an industry, we have always emphasized safety, which is why we were able to continue working through COVID and keep projects moving forward safely during the most difficult times. Again, LICA extends a huge thank you to all the essential workers within our industry and beyond. Click here for more photos of the MTA event.
