LICA Celebrates Forge River Sewers With GC Posillico/Bove JV

Despite below-freezing temperatures, there was a huge turnout for the ceremonial groundbreaking that marked the start of the long-awaited Forge River Watershed Sewer Project. LICA’s Director of Marketing, Lynn Barker was proud to represent our organization, standing side by side with several employees of the projects’ general contractor, Posillico Civil/Bove Industries JV – both long-time LICA member firms. Their joint venture won the $55+ million contract for the Forge River Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility which will be built in Mastic, on the site of the day’s press event. Several other contracts, also let last spring, are part of this overall project (for grinder pumps and the actual connection of low-pressure sewers to homes) and we are pleased to note that many of those were won by LICA member firms including Peter Scalamandre & Sons, Inc. and Grace Industries.

The Forge River project is part of the Suffolk County Coastal Resiliency Initiative (SCCRI) which will eventually connect more than 6,000 homes to sewers in three different areas of Suffolk. This portion will connect nearly 1,900 homes in the Mastic/Shirley area (at no cost to the homeowners). As highlighted at the press conference, the 15+ years it took to bring this project to fruition required the cooperation and dedication of numerous state and local agencies, elected officials (past and present) from both sides of the aisle, business and labor leaders, environmental advocates, and many members of the community. Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Suffolk water “czar” Peter Scully were hailed by all for their support and years-long efforts to make this day a reality and one which they hope they can repeat in other areas of Suffolk in the near future.
