Last Monday, Governor Andrew Cuomo was flanked on stage by key stakeholders and a handful of New York Islanders for the special occasion. But flanking the stage itself, were several machines emblazoned with the name of Ruttura & Sons, a proud LICA member and site preparation contractor for the Belmont redevelopment project. The long-awaited redevelopment, will include the construction of a new 19,000 seat arena (bringing the Islanders back home), as well as a 250-room hotel and a huge state-of-the-art "interactive" retail space, which is expected to create more than 10,000 construction jobs and generate $2.7 billion in economic activity. Once completed, estimates say it will sustain 3,200 new full-time jobs and generate $858 million in annual economic activity, providing a huge economic boost to our region. The recent commitment to add a permanent, full-time LIRR station to the area will be another key element to this projects' success. LICA is pleased to have supported this project and to know that several LICA members and many of our labor partners will be an integral part of this exciting project.
