As a FEMA Preparedness Partner for Region II, LICA joins the agency in urging everyone to prepare for potential disasters such as hurricanes, floods and power outages. As fellow Long Islanders who helped to rebuild much of our island’s infrastructure after Hurricane Sandy, LICA and its members have a particular focus on the upcoming hurricane season. So in an effort to help our residents prepare, LICA will disseminate important tips via social media and other outlets. We urge everyone to review the information and develop plans for potential emergencies with family, friends and employers. FEMA has made numerous resources available including downloadable mobile apps, which can help you access alerts and warnings. New York State offers its own alert system – NY-Alert. To subscribe visit www.nyalert.gov. All residents and organizations are also urged to participate in America's PrepareAthon on September 30th – the national Day-of-Action.

To help our area specifically, Citizen Preparedness Courses (sponsored by DHSES in partnership with the New York National Guard) are being held in towns throughout our region. More courses may be added, so visit the website for the latest updates. Currently, there are 4 trainings scheduled in the Nassau/Suffolk Region:
