LICA “Season’s Greetings” Meeting
LICA was thrilled to see so many familiar faces at our annual Spring meeting, held at the Fox Hollow on March 15, for this year’s construction season preview – a-k-a “Season’s Greetings!” In addition to LICA members, labor partners, and representatives from the LIRR, MTA, DOT, DOL, and DPW, as well as other industry colleagues, we were pleased to welcome many elected officials to the event, including Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney who led the gathering in the pledge of allegiance.
Prior to the start of the program, LICA Executive Director Marc Herbst made a point to recognize Mitch Pally, CEO of the Long Island Builders Institute (LIBI) who just announced his forthcoming retirement. Mitch is well known in our industry and in government circles and we wish all him many happy years of retirement ahead. We are pleased that Mitch served as the most recent cover subject for our LI Road Warriors magazine which was just released. Click here to read his story!
Herbst then took time to honor another special guest and recipient of the rare LICA Legacy Award, which was presented to Phil Eng. Eng, most recently, retired from service as President of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) however Phil has a long, respected, history of work and accomplishments from his time with NYS DOT and the MTA, prior to his role with the LIRR. LICA was proud to recognize Phil for all his hard work and dedication over the course of his career, thanking him for his leadership and partnership during that time.
The meeting then turned to our guest speakers who each presented the attendees with details about their capital programs and specific construction projects that will be let this season or in the near term, in their specific domain. LICA is grateful for the participation of all our presenters:
- Dana Hecht, Sr. VP Infrastructure, MTA Construction & Development
- Rich Causin, Long Island Regional Director of NYS Department of Transportation
- George (Chip) Gorman, Long Island Regional Director of NYS Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation
- Sean Sallie, Deputy Commissioner for Planning, Nassau County Department of Public Works
- Joe Brown, Commissioner of Suffolk County Department of Public Works
Finally, LICA would like to extend a big thank you to our generous March meeting sponsors. As always, their support is greatly appreciated:
