LICA Shows Support for LIRR

5-26_picture.pngExecutive Director Marc Herbst presented LICA’s official statement of support for the LIRR Third Track Expansion Project at the last of six initial public LIRR Project Scoping Meetings held this week. Over 100 people attended the Wednesday evening meeting in Hicksville, including LICA board member Billy Haugland, Jr. of Grace Industries, members of the Right Track for Long Island Coalition and several LICA labor partners.

Despite some opposition, most speakers - especially those representing business, educational or labor organizations - spoke highly in favor of the project and it’s many benefits, particularly the economic boost it would provide to our area. Even the environmentally sensitive Pine Barrens Society threw their support behind the plan.

Two of the representatives who sat on the panel to hear public comments about the project are faces familiar to LICA: Phillip Eng, P.E., Executive Deputy Commissioner and Chief Engineer for NYSDOT (far right) and Elisa Picca, LIRR’s new Executive Vice President (& former Chief Planning Officer) who are pictured here along with LIRR President Pat Nowakowski (blue tie), David Kapell, co-chair of the Right Track for Long Island Coalition and Marc Herbst, LICA’s executive director (far left).
