List of capital projects not available

August 5, 2012

Nassau Comptroller George Maragos told lawmakers last month that shutting down some capital projects proposed by County Executive Edward Mangano will save $17 million. "How do we know what projects are not going forward?" asked Legis. David Denenberg (D-Merrick).

"We were given a list that we can make available to you," Maragos replied. But Maragos didn't release it, either to Denenberg or Newsday, which also requested it. His spokesman said the list included a disclaimer from the administration that it wasn't to be distributed. On Friday, a Maragos aide said Mangano's office would handle the request. A Mangano spokesman later said his office will respond "within a responsible amount of time."
