LICA & LIRR East Side Access
On December 10th, Hofstra University Club hosted MTA Chairman Thomas Prendergast, LIRR President Patrick Nowakowski and a panel of other experts, to discuss the opportunity and challenges that will arise with the completion of the East Side Access project which will connect the LIRR directly with Manhattan’s Grand Central Station. Panelists included LICA’s Executive Director Marc Herbst, Mitchell Pally, CEO of the Long Island Builders Institute and an MTA board member, and developer Robert Coughlan, a principal of Tritec Real Estate. LICA was one of the event co-sponsors.
The $10.2 billion project, which began construction in 2007, is now slated for completion in late 2022 and will increase demand for transit-oriented residential developments, and call for additional infrastructure needs such as increased parking capacity at Long Island railroad stations, to accommodate the anticipated rise in ridership.
