SEN. TIM KENNEDY - CHAIR OF THE SENATE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE - TO VISIT LONG ISLAND AND TOUR KEY INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS

Long Island, NY – Sen. Tim Kennedy from New York’s 63rd district (Buffalo) and Chairman of the Transportation Committee will visit Long Island Friday during the Long Island Contractor Association’s new headquarters’ ribbon cutting event. After the ribbon cutting, Kennedy will tour Long Island and visit key infrastructure projects that are underway. The Senator’s appearance demonstrates his commitment to Long Island’s critical infrastructure needs.

The tour will include construction and transportation modernization sites.

“This is a critical time for Long Island. Next year the state will begin allocating funds for their capital plan. The Nassau-Suffolk region faces several challenges, most notably, that our transportation system is the most congested in the State of New York,” said Marc Herbst, Executive Director of the Long Island Contractors’ Association. “Governor Cuomo has been a fierce advocate for Long Island and developing the state’s infrastructure needs. I am thrilled he has allies like Senator Kennedy in the legislature.”

According to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, more than twenty percent of all registered motor vehicles in New York are located on Long Island (2017: Nassau 1,022,203; Suffolk 1,284,286; New York 11,288,933). The below New York State Average Daily Traffic map (source: New York State Department of Transportation 2015) clearly identifies the traffic congestion that chokes our Island – one of the site locations we will be visiting with the Senator is the NYSDOT Inform Center.

Sen. Kennedy said, “I am thrilled to visit Long Island and to join LICA to learn about issues that are important for working men, women and families here. Every region in New York is important and it is incumbent on us as elected officials to understand the challenges different stakeholders face across our state. We must continue to commit funds for infrastructure to fix our bridges, highways and roads across New York, and that starts right here in Long Island.”
